Kabirat Sulaiman

Kabirat is a 3rd year graduate research student (Molecular Parasitology) at the TMDD unit, Seeding Graduate Labs; Biosciences and Biotechnology Department, UNIMED, Ondo. Her research work focused on improving schistosomiasis diagnosis is a part of the main project ongoing at the research unit, majorly funded by NRF/TETFund grant awarded to Prof. O. T. Oyeyemi. She is exploring a range of immunoproteomic techniques and computational tools (most of which are available at our lab) on crude and refined proteins from soluble egg antigens (SEA) of Schistosoma and Fasciola species to identify novel diagnostic candidates for urogenital schistosomiasis. Under the mentorship and guidance of Prof. Oyeyemi, Kabirat has built her prowess in research design, community engagement and sensitization, collection of biological samples, collection of result and analysis, manuscript writing and grantsmanship. She received a $7500 ISID/BMGF research capacity building grant spring cohort III 2024 to support her research work. She is a member of both national and international bodies (International Veterinary Vaccinology Network and Global Schistosomiasis Alliance). Kabirat is a lecturer at the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, UNIMED. She is opened to collaborations in areas of structural bioinformatics, diagnosis, therapeutics and vaccine discovery and design for NTDs, cancer and other diseases of public health concern.
